Nobumichi Asai‘s new work, “Omote Real-time face traking and projection mapping,” shows you how a the face of a model can drastically change with “electronic makeup.” Thought it might seem a little bit creepy, reality is that it is extremely interesting. Would you try it on? (I would.)
Nobumichi has used projection mapping almost everywhere! Since he has already used as “canvas” many different types of surfaces, why not to try with a face? His “electronic makeup” can transform you into a robot, or put on some incredible makeup on without the need of touching your face. This goes beyond whatever you can dream on “makeup.” Different surfaces might appear onto your face creating science fiction faces. It is your face, and yet, with the “electronic makeup” it is not anymore!
Fantasy digital makeup might still be far from being a daily custom. Even though we might not be able to use it, this is a great piece of art. But, could you imagine that one day we were able to just project onto our faces electronic makeup? It would be, in a way, like being in “Blade Runner.” What would be the difference between a human face and a replicant?
