First of all: Happy Newe Year 2015! We want to celebrate it with a special fandom crossovers which are just new year 2015 fanart! Rinkya Japanese Flashcards: grammar flashcard “~naide kudasai”

Are you collecting all Rinkya Japanese flashcards? What do you think about our Grammar flashcards? We hope you like them! Today we are going to learn how to say “don’t do this” in Japanese. If we want to say “please, don’t smoke in the hospital” we state:

病院で吸ってないでください。Don’t smoke in the hospital.
Byouin de suttenaide kudasai.

It’s pretty easy. Put the verb in “~te” form (like an imperative) and add “~naide kudasai.” Please remember that some verbs in “~te” form have their endings in “~de.” So, be careful.

Rinkya Japanese Flashcards: grammar flashcard “~tewa ikemasen”

Are you collecting all Rinkya Japanese flashcards? Great! Today we are going to learn how to express prohibition with “~tewa ikemasen.” We use it to state things that are prohibited, or cannot be done. For example:

この部屋では吸ってはいけません。It is forbidden to smoke in this room.
Kono heya dewa sutte wa ikemasen.

The verb that we use is in “~te” form, like an imperative. As you know some verbs have the “~te” form ending in “~de.” So, be careful. This is usually a strong prohibition, and if you see a poster with such sentences, please refrain yourself of doing what’s written you cannot do.

Rinkya Japanese Flashcards: grammar flashcard “~hodo ~dewa arimasen”

Are you collecting all Rinkya Japanese flashcards? What about our grammar flashcards? We hope you collect them all! Today we are going to learn about “~hodo ~dewa arimasen.” We use it to make comparisons, in negative form. For example:

自転車は車ほど速くではありません。A bicycle isn’t as fast as a car.
Jitensha wa kuruma hodo hayaku dewa arimasen.

So, basically, what you do is to put in the subject the thing that is going to be compared negatively, then the thing which is more just before the “~hodo” and then a negative adjective along with “~dewa arimasen.”

You can also use the short version:

自転車は車ほど速くないです。A bicycle isn’t as fast as a car.
Jitensha wa kuruma hodo hayakunai desu.

Rinkya Japanese Flashcards: grammar flashcard “~yori”

Are you collecting all Rinkya Japanese flashcards? Today we are going to learn how to use “~yori.” We use it to make comparisons, usually to state that something is more or less than another thing. For example, if we want to say that this car is faster than that car, we say:

この車はその車より速いです。This car is faster than that car.
Kono kuruma wa sono kuruma yori hayai desu.

It is pretty easy. You just need to add “~yori” after the noun. Remember that “~yori” stands for “from.”
